How do you pronounce your name?
Probably a lot easier than you think! Huff-suh (the suh sounds like duh!) and Fy-zull.
What does it mean?
Hafsah is Arabic for ‘little lioness’. Pretty fab, if I do say so myself.
Where are you from?
I was born in sunny Miami, Florida and raised in sunny Los Angeles, California.
Where are you from from?
I wouldn’t ask anyone that question if I were you, but my parents are from Sri Lanka and our roots are in MENA.
When can I read your books?
Now! WE HUNT THE FLAME released on May 14th, 2019, and its sequel (and finale), WE FREE THE STARS, released on January 19th, 2021. A TEMPEST OF TEA releases February 20th, 2024.
Will you write anything more in the world of Arawiya?
Never say never!
How did you become a published author?
Through lots and lots of work!
WE HUNT THE FLAME was my fifth manuscript, and I worked on it for over four years before I queried agents. I was lucky enough to receive multiple offers of representation, and once I signed with my agent, we edited the manuscript for almost two months before going out on submission to editors.
Do you have a degree in writing?
I do not! And I’m a firm believer that anything is possible with enough willpower and work. Need more proof of this? I started and currently run a web design business, using knowledge I learned (and continue to learn) myself.
